About Padma Vibhushan Award Winners in Civil Service
The Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award of the Republic of India, after the Bharat Ratna. Instituted on 2 January 1954, the award is given for "exceptional and distinguished service". All persons without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex are eligible for these awards.
History of Padma Vibhushan Award Winners in Civil Service
India's highest civilian honours in public administration recognize distinguished civil servants and diplomats. H. V. R. Iyengar, ICS officer and RBI Governor, was honoured in 1962; Rajeshwar Dayal, ICS officer and diplomat, in 1969. K. B. Lall, veteran ICS diplomat, and M. S. Gill, IAS officer and Chief Election Commissioner, both received it in 2000. Cabinet Secretary Naresh Chandra and administrator-Governor Narinder Nath Vohra followed in 2007, and Governor T. V. Rajeswar in 2012.
