The 2024 list featured 17 Padma Bhushan recipients. Bengali actor Mithun Chakraborty and playback singer Usha Uthup were among the most prominent honorees, alongside cardiologist Tejas Patel and physician C. P. Thakur. Fathima Beevi, India's first woman Supreme Court judge, received the award posthumously, as did Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijayakanth. Taiwanese electronics tycoon Young Liu, chairman of Foxconn, was honored as a foreign recipient, while veteran choreographer Pyarelal and cinematographer Rajdutt also featured.
The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India, preceded by the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Vibhushan and followed by the Padma Shri. Instituted on 2 January 1954, the award is given for "distinguished service of a high order, without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex".
