The 1963 Padma Bhushan list included 12 recipients across literature, medicine, civil service and public affairs. Notable honorees include Hindi travel-literature pioneer Rahul Sankrityayan, poet Makhanlal Chaturvedi, and renowned organic chemist T. R. Seshadri.
